Waking up in the morning, I knew right from the moment my eyes snapped open that something was different. The pains in my lower stomach was liked being stabbed, and then it would stop for a while before starting up again. Keeping a snarl under my breathe as I stood up, holding my stomach while I staggered out into the clan. The earlier morning risers were making breakfast, Vita had brought back a few large deer enough for all of us. We had a rule, and that was hunt to live not live to hunt. That meant we caught only what we were going to eat, we didn't wake up with the need to hunt like humans and how the hunted everything they could, plus we said peace to the animal and made sure it didn't suffer. We were not religious like humanity was, it was part of who we were. Because one day, we may not have them around anymore. Anyway, I am digressing here. Vita gave me a small wave, helping carve the meat to be cooked probably for lunch.
Along near the streams, a few younger werewolves were getting water, older ones stood over a few larger fires turning over a spit with more hunks of meat, roasting with such a delicious smell. Bacon was being fried, while an assortment of vegetables were being cooked along with pancakes, fritters, small bits of fresh fruit on sticks with honey drizzled over it. Let us hear it for the Loup Garou! We go all out on food. "Smells delicious Gloria." I sought out one of the cooks in the clan, her face glowing with joy. She adored cooking, even though it could be such a chore at times with a clan this size, but never once did I hear her complain. As my words she handed me a plate with bacon strips, banana slices over top, along with a side of vegetables that included carrot and leaks, French toast and egg, chopped tomatoes and herbs in a sauce. "Thank you." She just smiled and carried on, she was never a big talker. Heading over to the tables, leaving the brilliant warmth of the fires behind, I took a seat, sampling the food.
Syren's bread was ripped in chunks on a plate in front of me, Arya gnawing on a piece and talking to Amanda which made me freeze. Amanda was different than when I had first met her, even though she still had her triggers to make her snap and snarl, she seemed to take a shine to Arya, though that wasn't surprising. Everyone adored my daughter. And that made me happy. "You two are up early." I spoke, earning a squeak from Arya as she virtually launched herself over to give me a hug. "Couldn't sleep." Was Amanda's response, and I nodded my sympathy, biting back another snarl as pain lanced through my stomach. Trying to eat became more of a chore as the pains didn't stop, crying out and pushing my plate away. Amanda shot up to her feet, streaking through the clan to grab Mick, Arya stood with fear in her eyes and I told her to get Syren and Cole, who would be getting their breakfast or talking to other clan members.
Mick rushed towards my side, carefully wrapping his arms around my shoulders so I could at least walk to the tent, crying again as another wave of pain hit. "Mi-di." I gasped, before shutting my eyes and being lead to the tent. It was a mass of everyone racing around, things being forgotten while they helped, reaching a bed and lying down, my head being sponged with cold water in a sponge but since my eyes were shut I didn't know who it was. I heard Midian and Arwen, Syren's voice floated in my hearing as I concentrated hard enough not to let the pain make me cry harder. "Don't push yet Stryker." Mick told me, and all I wanted to do was smack something, instead I took deep breathes, listening to Mick as he knew what he was doing. When did it get this painful? I vaguely thought to myself, feeling Taysha and Morgyn moving about that seemed like a nice reprieve from the labor pains, "Midi?" I whimpered, feeling rather pathetic as I called for my mate.
